Autumn, Fall, Birthdays

I LOVE fall. I mean, ridiculously so. I would marry fall. In, you know, October :)

It's almost my birthday, which pleases me - my mom, sisters, and nieces will hopefully come to my house for a birthday dinner of my choice - with a delicious out-of-the-box lemon layer cake. They're really the best, you know?

That's pretty much it for now.

yea, that's it.

Today was strange.

Today was strange.

The customer I've supported for the last two years ended their contract with the company I work for, and today was the official last day. Some people got jobs with the customer, some with the new vendor, and some stayed with us, helping other customers. But quite a few people lost their jobs - and up until just a few days ago, I was going to be one of them. I'm quite thankful that I'm "safe" for now, and looking forward to doing a slightly different version of the job I do now, but am a little apprehensive to have a new boss that I don't know well. All my previous interactions with him have been positive, so I don't think I'll hate him or anything, but I've been so comfortable with my current boss - we both started around the same time, and learned to live by our wits - our predecessors did NOT leave many breadcrumbs for how we should be doing our jobs, so we made things up as we went along. Our customer seemed to approve, right up to the end.

So it was a day of goodbyes; some welcome, some indifferent, but most a bit sad - when you work with a group of people, argue with them, collaborate with them, and spend more than 8 hours a day with them, you do grow a bit fond :)

I'll miss y'all.

Well, most of you ;)

Vacation, all I ever wanted....

I'm taking some PTO in the next week that expires soon if I don't use it - and I really really really NEED some time away from the drama that is work lately. Here's the plan:

Thursday Night:

Pick up Jenipah from the airport, gather her friend Sara and Sara's friend Kendra, and drive to Yosemite!! I know!!

Sunday Night:

Return, dirty, from the wilds.

Monday Night:

Drop Jenipah off at the airport. Weep, rend clothes and hair, drive away sobbing.

Tuesday Morning:

Get to SF (with Tori, prolly) and fly Virgin (so excited to try them!) to Seattle!! I know!!!

Saturday Morning:

Return to SF, greet Amy, go eat ramen, shop for Amy's new couch. Lounge strategically.

Sunday:

SLEEP. Alone.

Fuck yea.

Water Towers - Ohio Style

When I was in Ohio, my evenings were mostly spent eating, then driving around, checking out the scenery. The most obvious element around the area I was staying were the many water towers. It seemed like every country road meandered past one or two... and they're HUGE.

OHHhio

So I'm back in Ohio for work (I was here last month - I'm a regular fuckin' world traveler) and my trip here was... troublesome. I started off leaving home on time, but then the airplane had a "generator" problem. (Umm, I thought they used jet fuel to fly these things?)

So, the flight was pushed back, and back, and back a titch more. Finally, we left, but got to Denver right as my connecting flight taxied out. So, on to O'Hare, which I've been told to avoid at all costs. Turns out, there's a good reason for the advice I'd been given. The flight that was supposed to leave at 9:40 got out closer to midnight. So, I rolled into my Ohio hotel room at 2:45 in the morning, driving a bitchin red corolla.

(Bitchin' Corolla, Bitchin' Corolla... doesn't have quite the ring of the original)

OK, so OBVIOUSLY I have some issues with regularly posting...

So recent events - went to an outdoor music festival thing for the 4th, and saw this really awesome blues guy - Max Cabello Jr. - really really good, very intense sexy fella. And the even more awesome part? His family was all there to cheer him on, including the tiniest two kidlets (probably about 3 years old or so) who had small plastic guitars, and were "playing" them like there was no tomorrow. Folks, there was some serious guitar stylings... I will try to get the video off my phone to show, but just picture lenny kravitz crossed with jimi hendrix, miniaturized for your viewing pleasure. heh. seriously classic shit :)

Beginning with the Evil

So, you may wonder, "Why all the evil, Miss Monkey?"

I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill you, monkey-style. Which is to say, I would throw feces at you, groom you for small pests, and perhaps bite you a little. So, consider yourself warned.

Anyway, I thought I'd see how much writing I could get out there on a regular basis, and see if it amuses me. If I can keep it up, and continue to be amused, I will continue.
